Porsche 356

I was 10yrs old when I saw my first 356. It was painted Pearl and rumbled by me as I walked to school. I was mesmerized!! I knew that someday I would have one. Well it took a while but here is my '64C. I have taken the "Outlaw" approach in re-doing it and have done all the work myself (besides final smoothing and paint). This project has been on going (and sometimes not!) for about 12yrs. With any luck I'll be driving it soon.

First day home. What an ugly color!!

My 356 with a 10yr. old amateur restoration that had seen better days.

In my basement ready for paint stripping.

Several coats later! (original color, white)

Start of fender repair. Note gap at top of headlight bucket, you can just imagine what I pulled out of there!!

Hand made repair panels tacked in.

Welded up!

Torsion cover repair. Previous restoration had just covered this over!!

Panels tacked in.

Welded up!

Dash before.

Louvers for 1/4 windows. Couldn't find a shop to make them so I made my own dies and punched them myself!

Louvers set in place, pre-welding.

GT conversion fuel filler with rain tray.

Hood with opening for Fuel Filler access.

Getting ready for paint.

Lookin' a bit rough here.

Still a ways to go!

Primed.

Now we're getting somewhere!

Back in my basement, ready for final re-assembly.

WOW!

Fuel tank after chemical dipping and coating. (will be painted black)

Dashboard now!

GT mirrors.

Aluminum door panels with GT conversion leather window straps. Basic "trashcan" interior.

Aluminum kick plate and pedals. Note handmade shift knob.

Hand fabricated Plenum (behind louvers). Cable controls (between seats) allow for air to be introduced to the cab, engine, or shut off completely.

Louvers installed.

First and only time my '64 will see snow (moving it to the new shop).

Tucked in and meeting the 912 for the first time!
